Kathleen McGuckin
About the Artist
Kathleen McGuckin’s work is rooted in memory, lived experience, and the emotional layers carried through time. Influenced by a lifetime surrounded by artists and shaped by years as both an educator and practicing artist, she creates mixed media works that blend collage, painting, drawing, and texture into compositions that feel both intimate and universal. Her layered surfaces invite viewers into moments of reflection and connection, revealing traces of personal history while leaving space for individual interpretation and emotional response.
Artist Statement
The transformative power of memory is essential to my practice. A constant pulse of the past, intertwined with new experiences, provides insight into the details of living, whether simple, complex, joyful, or tragic. Mark-making techniques associated with drawing, painting, and printmaking are intentionally left visible to serve as a record of my process and as a testament to the human condition. Trusting my intuition, I apply the mediums in layers, adding and subtracting to reveal, in varying degrees, what exists above and beneath the surface as I seek to discover that which would otherwise be concealed.
