Rick Weber

About the Artist

Rick Weber has been creating art for more than fifty years, working across a wide range of media and techniques. Sculpture in clay has remained the most enduring focus of his practice. Beginning in 2001, he developed a substantial body of hollow, carved clay spheres that explore both geometric design and forms inspired by nature.

In 2018, Weber expanded his practice to include a series of clay masks, continuing his exploration of form, texture, and natural influences. His work is deeply connected to a lifelong relationship with the forests and rural landscapes of central and upstate New York. Time spent fishing, hunting, and wandering through the woods fostered a lasting sensitivity to the natural world and its quiet presence.

Originally studying biology before shifting his focus to art, Weber has spent decades exploring painting, sculpture, and ceramics. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to observation, craftsmanship, and creative discovery.

Artist Statement

My carved clay spheres are inspired by the timeless geometry found throughout nature. The sphere holds a quiet purity, a sense of completeness and balance that appears again and again in the world around us, from seeds and eggs to planets, stars, and even microscopic forms.

Through carving, I explore the relationship between form, space, and permanence. The sphere becomes both a physical object and a meditation on unity, continuity, and the patterns that connect all living things. By working with clay, I seek to reveal the beauty, simplicity, and mystery contained within these universal forms.
