Mark Hopkins

About the Artist

Mark Hopkins was born in the suburbs of Poughkeepsie, NY. and graduated with a BA in art from St.Olaf College (Minnesota) in 1981. He moved to Thailand in 1987 to investigate undeveloped worlds and expand his understanding of humanity, culture and self. His experiences have informed his artistic vision from that time.

Artist Statement 

My work is made for this moment. As a relic from the age before cellphones I have been watching closely as governments, technology, and now AI have changed, eroded, and replaced human culture and activities - including art. My work seeks to create a challenge to these forces and offer images that are uniquely human and that stimulate the imagination and thought. My hope is that insights in my paintings will create a constructive distraction for those struggling with the modern illusion — passed off as 'reality' — that makes life seem so surreal.
