John Grande
About the Artist
John Grande is a New York based artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, and murals. Born in Huntington, Long Island in 1969, Grande studied at the School of Visual Arts, earning his BFA in 1995 before moving to New York City.
Mixed Media Artist
His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and internationally, including New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, South Korea, Italy, India, and Canada. His artwork is held in collections across the United States and abroad, including India, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico, and South Korea.
Drawing from art history, popular culture, advertising, street art, and contemporary life, Grande has developed a practice that continually shifts between styles and influences while remaining distinctly his own.
Artist Statement
My work reflects the culture we live in and the many images, ideas, and influences that surround us. I draw from art history, popular culture, advertising, street art, American dreams, fantasies, and obsessions, combining familiar imagery in unexpected ways.
Rather than working within one fixed style, I allow each piece to develop through its own process. I am interested in taking existing visual languages and reworking them, bringing together references from Old Master painting, Pop Art, contemporary media, and everyday life.
Color, layering, contrast, and movement are central to my work. Images are constructed and deconstructed, allowing humor, history, and contemporary culture to exist together within the same piece.
Ultimately, the work is about people and the world we create around ourselves. I want each piece to feel familiar enough to draw you in, while offering something unexpected that makes you look again.
