Carol Flaitz
About the Artist
Carol's artistic career began at the age of thirteen under the instruction of Katherine Nelson - student of Hans Hoffman. She was raised in Alfred, NY, also home to the College of Ceramics where she received her Fine Arts degree and then went on to receive her Masters in ceramic sculpture in Cardiff, Wales. She taught art for 13 years and has shown her work in the Hudson region, in New York City, and internationally in Germany, Sweden and Malta among others. In addition, her work was selected by NASA for the Moon Ark project where selections of our culture were left on our Moon.
Artist Statement
Carol Flaitz creates abstract encaustic paintings inspired by geological landscapes and natural formations that span extraordinary scales. Her sources range from microscopic structures—visible only through magnification—to monumental landforms rising thousands of meters. Through a variety of textured media and techniques, Flaitz constructs richly layered surfaces that evoke landscapes of uncertain scale, offering viewers mesmerizing visual experiences that hover between the intimate and the epic.
