Artist Statement

As an artist, I have always been interested in storytelling, symbolism, and the ways we assign meaning to the objects and images around us. While much of my work has centered on sculpture and installation, this recent painting series allows me to explore those same ideas through humor, narrative, and cultural reference.

Inspired by the now-famous banana artwork that sparked conversations about value, authorship, and the nature of art itself, I began reimagining the banana as a recurring character. In these paintings, the banana moves through a variety of scenes, interacting with art history, popular culture, music, dance, and everyday life. Sometimes the images are playful, sometimes absurd, but they are always intended to invite curiosity and reflection.

I am fascinated by how familiar symbols can take on new meaning when placed in unexpected contexts. By blending classical references with contemporary ideas, I hope to create work that is approachable while also encouraging viewers to think about why certain images resonate, how meaning is constructed, and what ultimately gives art its significance.

Humor plays an important role in my practice. It allows me to engage with serious questions without taking myself too seriously. Beneath the wit and visual playfulness, these paintings explore larger themes of perception, value, memory, and imagination. My goal is to create work that sparks conversation, invites interpretation, and reminds us that art can be both thoughtful and joyful at the same time.
