David Holt

David K. Holt’s paintings explore the dialogue between memory, place, and abstraction. Working primarily in acrylics, Holt transforms architectural forms and familiar townscapes into rhythmic compositions that pulse with color and movement. His expressive brushwork and geometric structures evoke a sense of nostalgia, echoes of lived experience reconstructed through the lens of imagination.

Rooted in both his background as a printmaker and his lifelong study of aesthetics, Holt’s visual language bridges order and emotion, structure and spontaneity. His depictions of Newburgh’s streets and industrial landscapes such as Newburgh Abstraction, Early Morning Newburgh, and Late Shift capture the soul of working towns, not through realism, but through remembered sensations and the poetry of form.

For Holt, painting is a means of uncovering the emotional architecture of place. Each canvas becomes a meditation on how we perceive, internalize, and reassemble the world around us—an ongoing search for aesthetic meaning within the everyday.
