Charlene BachmannArtist Statement
Inter and intra-personal relationships are not only the foundation of but also the inspiration for my work. I have always given much thought as to why we are here, how we interact with others and what we are here to learn. I believe our relationships can be our most powerful teachers, if we are brave enough to explore the world inside ourselves. Strong emotions, ranging from love to insecurity and fear are within each one of us. This inner world can often be revealed through the mirror of others if we can take the time and the courage to look at it. As a primarily self-taught artist, I have explored the world of art through books, instructional videos, group classes as well as museums and galleries. I am deeply committed to my art as a lifelong spiritual and healing practice. My work is a representation of my own investigation into the self. Each piece I create begins directly on the canvas. The multilayered background depicts our emotional world with its varying colors, style, space or complexity. The overlaying shapes represent our relationships with others and/or ourselves. The juxtaposition between the two portrays how we interact with one another in conjunction with the depth of emotions we experience within ourselves |
