About Richard WeberThe journey of creating clay masks began with bark-like textures incorporating subtle human features to evoke a sense of emerging consciousness within the natural world. Over time, my work evolved. The earlier masks carried strong echoes of tree bark, celebrating the unity between humans and nature. In the masks you see today, the textures have shifted—moving beyond the direct representation of bark to take on lives of their own. These abstracted surfaces enhance the human features and invite viewers to imagine relics from an ancient, forgotten kingdom. They celebrate the enduring interplay between nature and humanity, offering a window into an imagined past that bridges both. Each piece stands as a testament to the timeless connection between our human essence and the natural world. My hope is that these masks inspire reflection on the beauty, resilience, and mystery of life itself. Featured Piece Exhibiting at Bank Art Gallery |
