Terry McMaster
"Apocalypto"

Acrylic and Ink on Paper
12” x 15”

$850

This piece speaks of the enduring nature of mythic images, which were created hundreds to thousands of years ago. Here I illustrate the transitory nature of material culture, of myths and stories and universal themes which no matter how powerful are all subject to eventual extinction, although these images tend to endure longer than most such imagery created in a post-colonial culture. These humanoid, anthropomorphic forms have a power within themselves no matter how strange they may look to people of divergent cultures. The archetypal energy of the image can be transmitted to anyone taking a moment to observe it. These figures seem to arise from a far-distant, mythic past, and yet they can be interpreted to be relevant to us in the present.
