Alex GeerkenAlex Geerken is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Newburgh, New York. With a background in video production, graphic design, and 2D animation, his work explores the intersection of motion, sound, and space. Through his installations, Geerken examines memory, perception, and the sensory fragments that shape how we recall the past.
Drawing from years of experience in motion graphics for music and film, his practice translates the language of time-based media into a physical environment. Each piece becomes an immersive experience that blends sculpture, projection, and sound, where light, shadow, and motion echo the rhythm of recollection and decay. For Orion, a site-specific audio-visual installation within the vault, Geerken combines sculptural form with synchronized video and sound to evoke the act of remembering. Three stacked televisions from different eras display looping imagery of human silhouettes fading in and out of focus, symbolizing how memory transforms across time and technology. The triangular composition draws inspiration from Orion’s Belt, referencing humanity’s ongoing search for meaning through celestial patterns of light. As images shift and dissolve, the installation becomes a meditation on the fragility of remembrance and the way moments resurface, fade, and reform in the spaces between presence and absence. |
